No. 12 LSU in 9th After 2nd Round of Darius Rucker

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 12 LSU women’s golf team is currently in ninth place at the prestigious Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Tigers shot a 14-over 298 in the second round of the tournament.

LSU had a solid start on the front nine, picking up where it left off yesterday, at 2-under when making the turn. The back nine presented several challenges, but freshman Ingrid Lindblad birdied 18 to finish at 2-over for the round and keep the Tigers in contention for their seventh Top 5 finish of the season. Only five strokes separate fourth and ninth place going into Sunday’s final round.

“Our four low scores were almost identical as yesterday,” said LSU head coach Garrett Runion. “Ingrid made a nice birdie on 18 to improve our second round team score by one. How we got there was a little different than yesterday though. We got off to a great start and moved up the leaderboard early making nine birdies on the front before turning to the more difficult back nine and struggled to keep the momentum going.”

Lindblad, the No. 1 player in the nation, and junior Kendall Griffin are hanging tough in the Top-25 on the player leaderboard. Lindblad is in a tie for 18th place at 5-over 147, while Griffin, in her third Darius Rucker competition is in a tie for 22nd place at 6-over 148 after shooting 3-over for the round.

Freshman Latanna Stone is in a tie for 32nd with a 4-over 75, while sophomore Presley Baggett provided the fourth score at 5-over 76 and is in a tied for 45th place.

“It’s easy to feel deflated because we haven’t played our best but we’re in a great spot teeing off in the first group tomorrow,” said Runion. “We need to go out early and put pressure on the teams in front of us and have a solid finish in a great field.”

LSU will be paired up with No. 6 Duke and No. 10 Vanderbilt for the third and final round on Sunday. Tee times are set for 7:00-7:40 a.m. CT from Hole No. 1. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
