No. 12 LSU in 7th At Darius Rucker

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 12 LSU women’s golf team is currently in a tie for seventh place at the prestigious Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Tigers shot a 15-over 299 in blustery conditions.

LSU started on the back nine at 10-over before settling down and moving up into seventh place in the 17-team field. All 17 teams in the field are ranked in the Golfstat Top 40. The Tigers were not able to get a practice round in yesterday due to weather conditions and travel delays to the tournament.

“We did not have an ideal situation coming into the tournament, but the team embraced the challenge and played well,” said LSU head coach Garrett Runion. “We started on the back 9 which statistically plays harder and our two freshmen have never play the course. They were able to minimize the damage early on during the day that was playing very difficult with 20-plus miles per hour winds. After adjusting to the speed of the greens, they all got more comfortable on the front 9 and were able to make some birdies that helped move us up the leaderboard.”

Rookie Ingrid Lindblad, the No. 1 player in the nation, and junior Kendall Griffin lead the team at 3-over 74 in a tie for 21st place. Freshman Latanna Stone is in a tie for 33rd with a 4-over 75, while sophomore Presley Baggett provided the fourth score at 5-over 76.

“Our plan is to take the momentum from playing our last six holes at 2-under par as a team and carry that over into tomorrow’s round,” said Runion. “It looks like it won’t be blowing as hard tomorrow, but it will be colder. We’re ready to get back out there in the first group and post a good score. We want to improve our position heading into the final round.”

LSU will be paired up with No. 6 Duke and No. 18 Arkansas for the second round on Saturday. Tee times are set for 7:30-8:10 a.m. CT from Hole No. 1. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
