Harrison Makes Third Straight Appearance on The Bowerman Watch List
Baton Rouge, La. – JuVaughn Harrison was named to The Bowerman Watch List (pre-NCAA Indoor Championships edition) on Thursday afternoon. He is one of 10 men to be named to the watch list prior to the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Harrison is coming off an SEC title in the high jump and a fourth-place showing in the long jump at the conference meet as he totaled 15 points for the LSU men’s squad. Harrison cleared a bar of 7′ 5″ (2.26 meters) on a must-make third attempt to win his second-straight SEC indoor high jump title. He used a leap of 25′ 9.50″ (7.86 meters) to take fourth in the long jump. Harrison has now won the last three SEC high jump titles contested – 2019 SEC indoor champ, 2019 SEC outdoor champ, and 2020 SEC indoor champ. He became the first man in the SEC to win back-to-back indoor high jump titles since 2013.
Harrison ranks No. 2 nationally in the long jump and No. 3 in the high jump. He registered both of his personal bests at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. On the 14th, he leaped out to a long jump of 26′ 7.25″ (8.11 meters) to check in at No. 2 in the national standings. Less than a day later, he cleared a bar of 7′ 5.75″ (2.28 meters) to land in the No. 3 spot in the national rankings for the high jump.
Harrison will compete in both events next week at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.. He will long jump on Friday (March 13) before competing in the high jump on Saturday (March 14). LSU is the only program in America to have more than one athlete recognized by The Bowerman Committee. Tonea Marshall was named to the list on Wednesday.
