Baton Rouge, La. – Lisa Gunnarsson and Jake Norris of the LSU track and field team earned SEC Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday afternoon, the SEC office announced.
Norris, the SEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, registered a season best throw of 70′ 8″ (21.54 meters) on Friday at the LSU Twilight to win a gold medal in the event. It was the fifth farthest throw of the weekend in the NCAA and it ranked him No. 16 in the nation for the 2020 indoor season. It was his second event title of the year in the weight throw.
Gunnarsson, the SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, was the top collegiate finisher at the LSU Twilight on Friday night with a clearance of 13′ 11.25″ (4.25 meters); she finished second overall. Gunnarsson has been the top collegiate finisher at three meets this season, and her season best clearance of 14′ 7.25″ (4.45 meters) ranks No. 6 in the NCAA this season.
The No. 1 ranked LSU women’s squad and the No. 2 ranked LSU men’s squad will compete at the SEC Championships this weekend in College Station, Texas. Action will take place on Friday (Feb. 28) and Saturday (Feb. 29).
