BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s golf team made a five-spot jump in the polls following the Tigers’ second-place finish at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico, this week. LSU is ranked No. 13 in both the Golfstat and Golfweek national polls.
“It was nice to wake up this morning and see that we have moved up to 13th in the latest rankings,” said LSU head coach Garrett Runion. “But the team knows that I am not too concerned with rankings and more concerned with each of them improving their skill set. If they focus on getting better every day, the rankings will follow and this is proof of that. It’s a nice indication that we are doing the right things and on the right path.”
LSU has finished in the Top-3 in all five tournaments played this season, including championships at the Princess Anne Invitational and Magnolia Invitational in the Fall. The Tigers just missed a third title this week, falling two strokes behind host Virginia at the IJGA Invitational.
“The goal is to be better at the end of the season than we are now and our ladies are competitive,” said Runion. Even after all of the positives from our last tournament in Mexico, they still have a bit of a sour taste in their mouths from finishing second. They are motivated to crack the Top10 and keep climbing.”
LSU returns to action on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1 for the Florida State Match-Up in Panama City, Florida.
