Johnson Named SEC Freshman of the Week
BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnast Kiya Johnson has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Johnson scored a 39.725 in the all-around for the best performance of her debut season. The Dallas, Texas, native scored a perfect 10 on beam. She became the third LSU freshman to score a perfect 10 and the fourth LSU gymnast to do it on beam. In 2020, Johnson is the sixth gymnast and only freshman to score a 10.
In addition to the win on beam, Johnson also scored a 9.975 on floor for the victory for a career high. Johnson set a career high on bars with a 9.85 and earned a 9.90 on vault.
Johnson has won nine titles with two in the all-around, two on vault, three on floor and two on beam.
The sixth-ranked Tigers and Johnson return to the Maravich Center to face No. 8 Alabama at 7:15 p.m. CT Friday. The meet will be televised on the SEC Network. Overall, Johnson ranks second on floor, third in vault and 10th in the all-around in the nation.
