Courtney Randall Named Director of Life Skills

BATON ROUGE – LSU Athletics announces the hire of Courtney Randall as the Director of Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills program Friday. At LSU, Randall will serve student-athletes through designing and implementing programming in the areas of career preparation, civic engagement, diversity and inclusion, and character development.

“We are very excited to bring Courtney to LSU,” said Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Miriam Segar. “He brings incredible energy and passion in developing student-athletes and a wealth of knowledge in college athletics. We are looking forward to working with him, and we are proud to welcome him to the LSU family.”

Randall comes to Baton Rouge after more than four years at Washington State, where he served as the Coordinator of Career and Leadership Development. While with the Cougars, Randall played a key role in building WSU’s Student-Athlete Development program. Randall’s core responsibilities included organizing and executing the yearly career development programming, overseeing student-athlete involvement in major and semester-long civic engagement projects, advising the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, teaching the University 295: Introduction to Models of Leadership class and facilitating the first-year student-athlete seminar.

“I am thankful to have the opportunity to provide transformative experiences and resources that help student-athletes excel during their time on campus, and transition with confidence,” said Randall.

“Louisiana State University is a special place made up of some of the most distinguished students, scholars, and staff in the country and I am more than excited to be a part of the Tiger family. Baton Rouge is one of a kind, and I look forward to living and working in this beautiful city.”

Randall also led the Career Development Workgroup made up of select WSU Athletics staff members tasked with outlining a comprehensive career development plan for student-athletes. Signature programs introduced by the Career Development Workgroup included the Passport to Careers event series, the Women’s Leadership Panel, the Student-Athlete Industry Tour, and Networking Night.

In his work focused on promoting Diversity and Inclusion amongst student-athletes, Randall assisted the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee with executing their first-annual International Student-Athlete Welcome event, served as a Co-Advisor to the Black Student-Athlete Association, and helped coordinate WSU Athletics’ first student-athlete trip to the Black Student-Athlete Summit at the University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to his stint at Washington State, Randall served as an Athletics Diversity Council graduate assistant for the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department. While at Oklahoma, Randall completed a Masters of Education degree in Adult and Higher Education, with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics.

Randall was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Nevada from 2006-10, playing on what is arguably the program’s most notable football team whom finished ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll in 2010. Randall complete his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology.
