Softball Begins Prep to Take the Lead in 2020

The LSU softball team began its prep for the 2020 season on Thursday afternoon.

“There is nothing like day one,” said head coach Beth Torina. “It’s like Christmas. Every day one is the same feeling when I drive in that parking lot. It’s excitement, it’s nerves. It’s all the emotions rolled into one. It’s a fun, great day and it’s exciting.”

Over the course of the last couple months, the Tigers engaged in strength and conditioning workouts, individual and team practices and competed against each other and some opponents.

Thursday’s practice started in the new Mike Moore Performance Center as the team went through a lifting workout. The practice finished under the lights as the Tigers worked on many aspects of the game on the field.

LSU returns 16 players from the 2019 squad, including All-American Shelbi Sunseri and All-SEC performer Aliyah Andrews. SEC All-Freshmen Savannah Stewart and Shelby Wickersham also return for the 2020 season.

The Tigers open the spring slate February 6 at home in Tiger Park, hosting Central Arkansas before hosting the Tiger Classic, February 7-9, which includes 2019 Women’s College World series team Oklahoma State and Florida A&M.
