Vazquez Bas Earns Three-Meter Bronze on Day One in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, TENN. – LSU diver Manny Vazquez Bas finished in third place on the three-meter springboard on day one of the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville, Tennessee. The invitational will continue tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. CT and will conclude with platform competition on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.

Vazquez Bas dove to a score of 312.10 in the prelims to finish in ninth place and advance to the final that immediately followed. The freshman delivered with his second best three-meter score of his career, a 366.10, in the finals to earn the bronze. The win was the second three-meter victory for Vazquez Bas in his collegiate career – adding to his win at the TYR Fall Classic back in October.

Also for the men, Dakota Hurbis just missed out on advancing to the final with a 13th place finish in the prelims with a score of 304.55. The top-12 in the prelims advance to the finals.

For the women, Hayley Montague dove to a score of 267.50 in the one-meter prelims to finish in sixth place and advance to the final. In the final, Montague scored a 242.60 to finish in 10th place. Anne Tuxen dove to a score of 236.90 in the prelims to finish in 22nd place.

“This was a good start to 2020,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “As important as competition is, it is also important to rehearse our upcoming championship schedule. This competition is valuable and prepares us for the schedule we will experience at the SEC Championships, NCAA Zones, and the NCAA Championships.”
