LSU Football Earns First CFP No. 1 Ranking

BATON ROUGE – LSU is now the consensus No. 1 ranked team in college football as the Tigers moved to No. 1 in this week’s College Football Playoff Rankings, which were released for the second time in 2019 on Tuesday night.

LSU, which is coming off a 46-41 win over then-No. 3 Alabama, is also ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Associated Press poll and the USA Today Coaches poll.

It’s the first time since the College Football Playoff format began in 2014 that LSU has held the No. 1 spot in the CFP Rankings. LSU made its 2019 debut in the CFP Rankings at No. 2.

With the win over the Crimson Tide, the Tigers moved past Ohio State to the No. 1 spot. The Buckeyes are No. 2 this week, followed by Clemson, Georgia, and Alabama.

Oregon is No. 6, followed by Utah, Minnesota, Penn State and Oklahoma.

Other Southeastern Conference teams in the CFP Rankings include Florida at No. 11 and Auburn at No. 12. Another opponent on LSU’s 2019 schedule – Texas – is ranked No. 19.

LSU is 4-0 against teams currently ranked in the CFP Top 25. LSU is the only team in college football with a 4-0 mark against teams ranked in this week’s CFP Top 25.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Ole Miss in Oxford. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN.

Tickets to the Tigers’ two remaining home games against Arkansas (Nov. 23) and Texas A&M (Nov. 30) are available at www.LSUtix.net.
