Winstead Cards 64; Golf Finishes 2nd at Tavistock Invitational
Windermere, Fla. – Trey Winstead registered a career-low 8-under 64 as the LSU men’s golf team finished in second at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club.
The Tigers finished with a 4-under 284 team score on the final day. LSU finished with a three-day total of 6-under 858 (287-287-284). LSU finished second behind Central Florida who recorded a 22-under 842 total team score. No. 24 LSU finished ahead of five other teams ranked in Golfweek’s Top 25: No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 16 Auburn, No. 20 Texas and No. 23 West Virginia.
Winstead shot the fifth-lowest round in school history relative to par with an 8-under 64. He turned in a clean scorecard with eight birdies and 10 pars. Winstead’s career low round surged him nine spots up the leaderboard to finish the tournament in second with a 11-under 205 (70-71-64). Winstead’s round was the best of the field on the final day of the Tavistock. He joins Luis Gagne who also carded an 8-under at the 2018 Maui Jim Collegiate. Sam Burns (62), Hayden White (63), Garrett Barber (63) and Tommie Mudd (63) have all registered 9-under pars.
Through three rounds, Winstead led the field in par 3 scoring with a 2.75 average. In addition, he was second in par 4 scoring with a 3.80 average. Winstead completed the tournament with 13 birdies.
Philip Barbaree finished with a 2-under 70 on day three. He recorded four birdies in his round to go along with two bogeys and 12 pars. The solid final round pushed Barbaree 14 spots up the leaderboard. It was the largest jump by a Tiger in the final round. Barbaree finished 17th on the leaderboard with a three-day total of even par (73-73-70).
Michael Sanders turned in a 1-over 73 on the final day. He carded four birdies, three bogeys, a double bogey and 10 pars in his round. Sanders finished the tournament with a 3-over 219 total (74-72-73).
Garrett Barber finished the day with a 5-over 77. He finished the tournament with a 10-over 226 score (73-76-77).
Hayden White also completed the third round with a 5-over 77. White finished with a 3-over 219 total (71-71-77).
The Tavistock marks LSU’s final tournament of the fall season. The Tigers start the spring portion of the schedule January 27, 2020 at the Southwestern Invitational in Westlake Village, California.
