Eight Tigers Qualify for Second Stage of Korn Ferry Q-School
Baton Rouge, La. – Eight former LSU Tigers qualified for the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School after finishing in the top 20 at multiple first stage tournaments.
Stewart Jolly shot a 14-under 270 at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, NC. He finished the event tied for seventh. In the final round, he ascended 20 spots on the leaderboard with a 7-under 64. Jolly used eight birdies to go along with a bogey and nine pars to make a significant jump. Jolly carded 18 birdies through four rounds to propel him into the top 10 of the leaderboard. Throughout the four-day tournament, Jolly played well carding 46 pars, an eagle and only 6 bogeys.
Luis Gagne finished tied for 12th at the Grasslands Golf Course in Lakeland, Fla. He finished the tournament with a 13-under 275. In the first and third rounds, Gagne shot a 2-under 70. In the second round, he carded a 3-under 69. Gagne’s best round of the tournament came on the last day as he used a 6-under 66 to move 14 spots up the leaderboard. He carded 5 birdies, an eagle, 11 pars and a bogey in the final round.
In West Palm Beach, Fla., Curtis Thompson finished tied for second with a 15-under 273. In four rounds at The Breakers Rees Jones course, Thompson amassed 18 birdies, an eagle and 49 pars to go along with only five bogeys. In his first round, he finished with a 2-under 70. He then followed with a 5-under 67 second round and another 2-under 70 in the third round. Thompson utilized a 6-under 66 final round to move five spots up the leaderboard.
Myles Lewis, Brandon Pierce, Nathan Jeansonne and Eric Ricard all placed in the top 20 at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas. Lewis and Pierce both finished tied for sixth with a 10-under 278. Lewis shot par the first and fourth rounds and used rounds of 3-under 69 and 7-under 65 to move up in the standings. Pierce used 14 birdies and three eagles in four rounds to secure the top 10 finish. He shot a 4-under 68 first round, a 3-under 69 second round, a 2-under 70 third round and a 1-under 71 final round. Jeansonne finished the tournament with an 8-under 280. His best scores came in the first and third rounds as he shot a 3-under 69 and a 4-under 68. Jeansonne totaled 48 pars and nine bogeys in the tournament, but he capitalized on 17 birdies. Ricard used a 7-under 281 to finish in 17th. After a two-over 74 first round, he used rounds of 3-under 69 and 1-under 71 to put himself within striking distance. In the final round, Ricard jumped 13 spots on the leaderboard as he carded a 5-under 67. He used seven birdies to go along with nine pars and two bogeys to make a significant jump and qualify for the second stage.
Landon Lyons finished tied for 11th with a 13-under 275 at the Bridges at Firewheel course in Garland, Texas. He started the tournament with first round score of 2-under 70. He then followed with a 3-under 69 second round and 4-under 68 third round. Lyons carded 19 birdies in the tournament and finished the final round with a bogey-free, 4-under 68.
All eight golfers will now advance to the second stage of tournaments which will be held at five different courses in early November. The Finals of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School takes place in December.
