BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes (CCACSA) recognizes several athletes for their scholastic and community achievements each month. Student-athletes are chosen based on their commitment to academic success and for their devotion to volunteerism and service to the community.
Here are the August 2019 CCASA’s staff Student-Athletes of the month:
• Thomas Roark, So., Men’s Swimming & Diving, Boise, Idaho (Major: Sports Administration)
Nominator – Academic Advisor, Delanie Authement: “Thomas did extremely well in the summer. He has shown growth in his academics and always has a positive attitude. I am excited to see what this academic year holds for Thomas as he trends upwards.”
• Stephen Sullivan, Sr., Football, Donaldsonville, La. (Major: Interdisciplinary Studies)
Nominator – Carli Faulkner, Manager of Student Learning: “Stephen has worked tirelessly throughout his time here at LSU. Stephen earned his degree this summer and is the first in his family to graduate.”
• Akiya Thymes, R-Sr., Softball, Brusly, La. (Major: Sports Administration)
Nominator – Senior Associate Director Carole Walker: “Akiya is taking the final prerequisites to be admitted to Kinesiology Human Movement program with a concentration in Pre-Athletic Training. She took three of those courses this summer and did very well. As she enters her last year of eligibility, she truly desires to pursue a second degree and is working very hard on what she needs to in order do so. She is taking the last prerequisite needed along with other courses that count toward the major in the fall and understands the work ethic she will need to have in order to achieve her goal.”
• Cade York, Fr., Football, McKinney, Texas (Major: Finance)
Nominator –Associate Director Jason Shaw: “Cade has displayed a great attitude and performed well during the Summer of 2019. He was on time, had a good attitude and performed exceptionally well in his courses. We look forward to his continued success in the fall.”

It is through living the values of the Total Team Commitment 2017-2022, particularly education, academic success, and service to the community that six student-athletes are recognized as Cox Communications Academic Center Student-Athlete of the month. These values are fundamental to the growth and development of our student-athletes as they enter to learn, then leave to serve.
The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes is a 54,000 square-foot facility comprised of teams for academic affairs, student affairs and information technology, who annually serve more than 500 student-athletes. The purpose of the CCACSA is to provide an all-inclusive, student-centered support structure for all student-athletes from matriculation, through graduation, and life beyond.
