Three Divers Qualify For NCAAs On Final Day Of Zones

AUSTIN, Texas– Three more divers qualified for the 2019 NCAA Championships on the third and final day of the 2019 NCAA Zone D Regionals.  

Juan Celaya-Hernandez and Matthew Phillip qualified for the NCAA Championships on the platform on the men’s side. Phillip took the silver with a score of 701.25 and Celaya-Hernandez finished seventh with a score of 653.95. 

Also for the men, Dakota Hurbis finished 13thon the platform with a score of 277.20.

For the women, Aimee Wilson qualified for the NCAA Championships on platform after finishing in in fifth place with a score of 543.60. 

Over the three-day meet, the Tigers qualified five divers for twelve entries in diving events at the national championships. Celaya-Hernandez and Wilson qualified in all three events, Phillip qualified on the three-meter and platform, and Cui and Matt McClellan qualified on both springboard events. 

“I couldn’t be happier with our performance,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Five divers qualified for the NCAA Championships and together will compete in twelve events. The Zone Championships is a brutal event that tests your mind and stamina. The hard part is over and we can now focus on the reward for our hard work, competing at the NCAA Championships.”
