Gym Improves NQS; Remains at Fourth in Rankings

BATON ROUGE – Following a season-high score of 198.150 on Friday night in the win over No. 15 Oregon State, the LSU gymnastics team improved its National Qualifying Score (NQS) and remained at fourth in the rankings, RoadtoNationals.com released.

The Tigers are ranked in the top-five for the 38th-straight week. The squad is 10-3 on the season and has two more meets to improve its NQS before NCAA competition.

The NQS is ascertained by taking a team’s top six scores – three of which must be from road/neutral meets – dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five scores.

The squad’s scores counting toward its NQS are: 197.450 at Alabama, 197.250 at GymQuarters, 197.125 at Arkansas, 198.150 vs. Oregon State, 197.900 vs. Georgia, and 197.650 vs. Missouri.

The squad must drop the 198.150 as it’s the highest of the six. The remaining scores average out to 197.475 for fourth in the nation behind Oklahoma, UCLA and Florida. Denver, and Utah sit in fifth and sixth in the rankings with an NQS of 197.365 and 197.315 respectively.

In addition to the team rankings, LSU is also fourth on beam, fifth on vault and floor, and sixth on bars.

Senior Sarah Finnegan, the reigning SEC Gymnast of the Week, is one of the best gymnasts in the nation. Finnegan is coming off of an all-around score of 39.800 for the second-highest in the nation and best in the SEC in 2019. Finnegan has won the all-around title in 10 of 11 meets this year. The Lee’s Summit, Missouri native owns top-16 on every event and is fourth in the all-around.

Junior Kennedi Edney also owns multiple top-25 rankings. Edney is 13th on vault, 14th on beam, 15th in the all-around and 19th on bars. Sophomore Reagan Campbell is 13th in the nation on beam and owns a pair of career-high scores of 9.975 the last two weeks.

The fourth-ranked Tigers will compete for the final time during the regular season at 8 p.m. CT Friday against Arizona in Tucson. The meet between the Tigers and Wildcats will be streamed on Pac12.com. Fans are encouraged to follow updates on social media at twitter.com/lsugym and facebook.com/lsugym.
