Baton Rouge, La. – LSU freshman sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has been tabbed as the Women’s SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Suiting up in the Purple and Gold for the first time in her career last weekend at the UAB Vulcan Invitational, Richardson raced twice in the 60 meters. In the qualifying round, Richardson easily won her heat with the fastest qualifying time (7.34). Racing in the finals about 90 minutes later, the native of Dallas, Texas, clocked a winning time of 7.23 in the finals for her first collegiate win.
The time of 7.23 is the second fastest to be run this season in the NCAA and it ranks as the fourth fastest in the world for 2019. Richardson and the LSU track and field squad will be back in action this Friday (January 18) at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas. This is the first SEC honor of Richardson’s career.
