Burns Earns Best Finish of PGA Tour Career

Baton Rouge, La. – Former LSU men’s golfer Sam Burns registered the best finish of his young PGA Tour career on Sunday with a tie for third at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss.

Playing the par 72 Country Club of Jackson, Burns rattled off rounds of 69-70-66-68 to finish with a 15-under par 273 at the second tournament of his 2018-19 PGA season.

Burns played exceptionally well on Saturday with a 6-under par 66. He rolled in six birdies to go along with an eagle on the way to the best round of his season. Burns took advantage of the par 4s and par 5s all weekend long playing a combined 18-under on those kind of holes. Burns was dialed in and hit 57 of the 72 greens in range to set himself up for some quality scoring situations. Burns ended up making 19 birdies during the four-day tournament.

Burns went low on his final nine holes of the tournament with four birdies and five pars to come home in 32 strokes; his final birdie of the tournament was a chip in on the par 4 17th. Before his furious finishing stretch, Burns was hovering around a top-20 finish. The tie for third place earned Burns $255,200 in prize money.
