BATON ROUGE – LSU diver Juan Celaya-Hernandez has been named the SEC Men’s Diver of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Tuesday.
Celaya-Hernandez, a junior from Mexico, won both springboard events against No. 4 Florida. On one-meter, Celaya-Hernandez scored a 429.75, winning the event by a staggering 91.12 points. On three-meter, Celaya-Hernandez dove to a score of 478.13, coming within 5 points of his school record and setting a new LSU Natatorium pool record. The junior has qualified for NCAA Zones on both boards.
In addition to this being second time this season that Celaya-Hernandez has earned SEC honors, it is the seventh time he earned SEC Male Diver of the Week over his career.
“This is a great accomplishment and recognition for Juan,” said LSU diving head coach Doug Shaffer. “He is training well and working incredibly hard. He’s gotten off to a great start this season.”
Next up for Celaya-Hernandez is a trip to Lexington to face Kentucky on October 23 at 3:00 p.m. CT.
