Barber Named USA Boys Golfer of the Year

Baton Rouge, La.  – Garrett Barber, a member of LSU’s heralded 2018 recruiting class, was named the 2018 All-USA Boys Golfer of the Year on Tuesday.

Barber capped his senior year playing for The Pine School in Stuart, Fla., and won the 2017 Florida Class 1A state title against not only the top golfers in Florida, but a few of them ranked among the Top 20 in the nation. He used a final-round score of 7-under par 65 to bring his two-day total to 10-under par 134 at the El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort and Club to run away with the state title by six strokes in November.

As of mid-June, Barber is currently ranked as the No. 6 golfer in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association rankings. Most recently, he won the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball championship alongside teammate Cole Hammer at the Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla., in late May. Barber’s play has propelled him up to No. 46 on the latest World Amateur Golf rankings.

He started his 2017-18 season by advancing to the Round of 32 of match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship in August, and he recorded a perfect 3-0 record in match play to lead the United States to victory at the inaugural Junior Presidents Cup in September. He won the Jones Cup Invitational, a tournament that is open to all amateurs, in January with a three-round tally of 4-under par 212 (73-73-66) to earn a sponsor’s exemption into the 2018 RSM Classic on the PGA Tour in November.
