BATON ROUGE – LSU swimmer Mitchell Petras was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Men’s At-Large Team Thursday. The teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Petras was selected to the Third Team, and is the only Tiger to make the cut. The junior currently has a 4.00 GPA in petroleum engineering.
“Mitchell has found the perfect balance here at LSU,” explained LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer. “This is a huge honor for him. I spoke with him after he was selected to the All-District Team, and he was very excited about this. He’s a great representation of this program and this institution.”
Petras has also garnered multiple scholarships for his academic achievements. At the LSU College of Engineering Banquet last February, Petras won both the Joe and Kim Reid Scholarship and the Chevron Energy Leaders Scholarship, which total to $3500 in scholarship awards.
Petras was recently selected as an Astronaut Scholar by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF). The scholarship comes with an award up to $10,000 and an invitation to the Innovator’s Gala in Washington D.C. this August.
In the pool, Petras ended this season with personal-best times in both the men’s 100 and 200 breaststroke at the SEC Championships, finishing 35th overall in both events.
