BATON ROUGE – Marlon Taylor from Panola (Texas) College is the latest addition to the LSU men’s basketball team, LSU Head Coach Will Wade announced on Friday.

Taylor’s national letter-of-intent papers were received and approved by the LSU Compliance Department as he becomes the second signee of the spring signing period for the Tigers, nationally ranked in the top five in signing classes for the 2018-19 season.

Taylor, 6-6, whose hometown is Mt. Vernon, New York, finished his sophomore year at Panola and will have two years of eligibility when he joins the Tigers.

“We are pleased to have Marlon Taylor of Panola joining the LSU Basketball team” said coach Wade. “He is an athletic wing who can make shots, defend and rebound. He has a good work ethic and knowledge of the game and we look forward to him continuing to develop his skills at LSU.”

Taylor averaged 10.7 points and 7.1 rebounds a game during the 2016-17 freshman season at Panola, upping his averages to 17.0 points per game, 9.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists this past year. Over his two seasons he was at 52.4 percent from the floor, 40.3 percent from the three-point arc and 80.4 percent from the free throw line.

Taylor attended high school in Mt. Vernon, and had a prep school year at Forest Trail Academy in Kernersville, North Carolina. He led Mt. Vernon High to the New York Section 1 Class AA state championship and a 19-4 record, averaging 14 points and 9 rebounds a game.

Panola was 20-12 this past season, advancing to the NJCAA Region 14 Tournament quarterfinals. In Taylor’s freshman season, the team went 26-9 and advanced to the second round of the NJCAA national tournament for the first time since 1979 after winning the Region 14 tournament. Grant McMillan was Taylor’s coach at Panola.

LSU is presently ranked fourth in the 247sports.com composite team recruiting rankings. Taylor is added to a signing class that includes five-star signees Naz Reid of Roselle Catholic in Roselle, New Jersey; and, Emmitt Williams of Lehigh Acres, Florida (Oak Ridge High); along with four star signees Ja’Vonte Smart of Scotlandville Magnet in Baton Rouge (also Mr. Basketball in Louisiana); and, Darius Days of Gainesville, Florida (IMG Academy).
