BATON ROUGE – LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Fargas has announced the signing of LaToya Ashman to a Nation Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers program for the 2018-19 season.
“We are excited to have LaToya Ashman join the Lady Tiger family,” said Fargas. “LaToya brings two seasons of college experience to the table and will be a great addition to our team. She is an outstanding guard with her ability to stretch the defense with her 3-ball shooting along with her physical and aggressive play off the bounce.”
Ashman is a 5-10 guard from Wellington, Florida. She is transferring to LSU from Florida SouthWestern State College. Ashman was an NJCAA All-Region VIII selection as a sophomore and a two-time all-conference first team honoree. As a freshman for the Buccaneers, Ashman averaged 14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Her assists average ranked 27th in the country. She also recorded the program’s first triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Miami Dade on January 28, 2017.
Ashman played for Wellington High School where she was a first team all-county selection and averaged 17.0 points as a senior in 2015-16. She finished her scholastic career as the fourth leading scorer in school history with 1,595 points. She is the daughter of Andrew and Andrea Ashman and is interested in studying sports management.
