BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s golf team is set to tee it up in Macon, Georgia, over the next three days at the Brickyard Collegiate, presented by Mizuno. The second annual Brickyard will take place at The Brickyard Golf Club at Riverside on April 8-10.
The 54-hole, par-72 event, hosted by Mercer, will be the final tune up for the Lady Tigers before the 2018 SEC Championships. The 14-team field includes three Golfstat Top-50 programs in Vanderbilt (27), LSU (40) and Kennesaw State (42). Live results will be available at BirdieFire.com. LSU tees off at 7:30 a.m. CT on Sunday for the first round.
The Lady Tigers look to have a strong showing after winning the 2018 LSU Tiger Golf Classic on March 25. LSU won its first tournament of the season by overcoming an 11-stroke deficit to win with a three-day 902 total.
Senior Claudia De Antonio won the Tiger Classic for the first tournament victory of her career. De Antonio shot a 69 in the final round to take the lead and finish at 1-under 215 for the tournament.
Classmate Sydney Cavin also finished strong at the Classic with a matching final round of 69 and finished tied for 10th at 10-over 226. Junior Kathleen Gallagher also finished in the top-15 with an 11-over 227 for a tie in 12th place.
The trio will take the top three spots in the Brickyard lineup. Rookies Mary Frances Chauvin and Kendall Griffin round out the starting five.
De Antonio leads the team with a 74.10 stroke average through 20 rounds this season, followed by Gallagher at 74.55. Cavin has a 74.73 average through 11 rounds after returning from an early-season foot injury.
