Women's Tennis to Face Tulsa in Round of 64

BERKELEY, Calif. — The LSU women’s tennis team will take on No. 40 Tulsa in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 13 at the Hellman Tennis Complex at 11 a.m. CT.

The No. 21-ranked Tigers (14-10) have a 7-5 all-time advantage over the Hurricane (20-7), with the most recent match between the two teams coming in 2012.

LSU has qualified for the NCAA Tournament each of the past three seasons and has advanced past the round of 64 the past two seasons.

The Tigers advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament and fell to No. 2 Vanderbilt, 4-2, while Tulsa fell in the American Athletic Conference Championship to South Florida, which LSU defeated by a score of 6-1 earlier this season.

SEC Co-Freshman of the Year and the No. 11-ranked player in the country Jade Lewis has 15 dual singles wins this season, tied for the team lead with junior No. 105 Ryann Foster. Sophomore Jessica Golovin is next with 13 dual wins, followed by No. 46 Joana Valle Costa.

The Hurricane are coached by Dean Orford in his 12th season with the team.

The winner of Saturday’s match will advance to the round of 32 to face the winner of San Jose St. and the University of California, ranked No. 13 in the country.
