Wright Remains Unbeaten at Palmer Cup

MERSEYSIDE, England – LSU’s senior All-American Zach Wright remained unbeaten in three matches for Team USA at this year’s Arnold Palmer Cup as he halved his singles match against Stirling University’s Mathias Eggenberger thanks to a lengthy par putt on hole No. 18 to close out match No. 9 of the day at Formby Golf Club.

Wright’s halve was one of the few bright spots for the Americans on the day as they fell six points behind the Europeans by a 13-7 margin after Saturday’s singles with Europe only needing 2.5 points for Sunday’s finale to take back the Arnold Palmer Cup last won two years ago at Walton Heath Golf Club.

Wright erased his one-hole deficit to Eggenberger on the back nine by rolling in a 12-footer for par at the 18th green to square the match as Eggenberger missed his six-foot par putt for the outright win.

After wrapping up his collegiate career a perfect 6-0 in match play at the NCAA Championships, Wright is unbeaten with one win and two halves while scoring two points for Team USA at the Arnold Palmer Cup running this weekend. After he teamed with Illinois’ Charlie Danielson to square their morning foursome against Eggenberger and Augusta’s Robin Petersson in Friday’s opener, they scored a comfortable 4-and-2 win over the team of Stuart Grehan and Lars van Meijel in their afternoon four-ball match to start the tournament.

Wright will look to remain unbeaten and get the United States back in contention for the Arnold Palmer Cup when he faces Petersson in the fourth match of the day in Sunday’s singles competition that is set to tee off at 3:36 a.m. CT. The final day of the competition begins at 3 a.m. CT with tee times running through 4:48 a.m. CT for the 10 singles matches.
