CHOCTAW, Miss. – LSU women’s golfer Kathleen Gallagher, who was recently named the Louisiana freshman golfer of the year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, earned her second Mississippi Women’s Golf Association state amateur championship Thursday at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club.
For Gallagher the win that goes with her triumph in 2013, ties her with old sister Mary Langdon, and gives the Gallagher family 16 total state women’s am titles as their mother, former LSU golfer Cissye Meeks Gallagher, has won 12 titles. Her last came as recently as a year ago.
Gallagher in the championship match was able to defeat Emily Ross of Southern Miss to win the title. Ironically, it was Ross that defeated Cissye Gallagher in the semifinal to advance to the championship match.
Kathleen Gallagher won the championship on the 17th hole of the final match.
