BATON ROUGE – While there should be no definite answer as to the position where former LSU player Ben Simmons will be drafted, Tuesday night should determine the teams potentially involved as the 2016 NBA Draft Lottery takes place at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
Simmons, the projected No. 1 or No. 2 pick depending which of the multitude of mock drafts you look at based on pre-lottery draft order, will more than likely be taking in the event from Cleveland where the Cavs and Toronto Raptors will play Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on the network at 7:30 p.m.
Here is the chart that gives the odds for the non-playoffs teams to get the No. 1 pick and a top 3 pick (courtesy of CBSsports.com):
- Philadelphia 25% (1) 64.3% (top 3)
- LA Lakers 19.9% (1) 55.8% (top 3)
- Boston 15.6% (1) 46.9% (top 3)
- Phoenix 11.9% (1) 37.8% (top 3)
- Minnesota 8.8% (1) 29.1% (top 3)
- New Orleans 6.3% (1) 21.5% (top 3)
- Denver 4.3% (1) 15.0% (top 3)
- Sacramento 1.9% (1) 6.8% (top 3)
- Toronto 1.9% (1) 6.8% (top 3)
- Milwaukee 1.8% (1) 6.5% (top 3)
- Orlando 0.8% (1) 2.9% (top 3)
- Utah 0.7% (1) 2.5% (top 3)
- Phoenix 0.6% (1) 2.2% (top 3)
- Chicago 0.5% (1) 1.8% (top 3)
There are some trade ramifications that prevent Sacramento or Toronto from actually receiving the overall first pick and the Lakes could lose their selection entirely if they fall out of the top three.
The NBA Draft will take place in Brooklyn on June 23.
