NCAA Golf Regional Field to be Announced

BATON ROUGE – The field for the Baton Rouge NCAA Women’s Golf Regional will be announced Monday at 5 p.m. CT on a special edition of Golf Central on Golf Channel.

In all, 72 teams and 24 individuals not on the 72 teams will be announced for four regional events that are set for May 5-7 hosted by Stanford, Texas A&M, Alabama and LSU. From the 18 teams in each regional, six teams will advance along with three individuals not on those six teams to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon later in the month.

The Lady Tigers as of the weekend were ranked 49th in the Golfstat rankings and that should be good enough for LSU to make its 22nd regional in the 24 years since regional play began in 1993.

With three Southeastern Conference teams hosting regionals, it will be one thing to see where all the SEC teams are distributed with 10 teams inside the top 50 in the Golfstat rankings.

LSU is hosting a regional for the fourth time dating back to 1993 when the first East Regional was held at Santa Maria GC in Baton Rouge. The original University Club layout hosted regionals in 2002 and 2007 and this will be the first women’s regional held on the renovated U-Club course layout.
