BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU beach volleyball team (9-4) will travel to Kenner, Louisiana for the Green Wave Invitational at the Coconut Beach Sand Volleyball Complex this weekend. The Lady Tigers will face Houston Baptist and Tulane on Friday, capping off the tournament with matches against Arizona and Georgia State on Saturday.
The Tigers have won five of their last six matches heading into the tournament and are anchored by the heart of their lineup. No. 2 duo Lilly Kessler and Helen Boyle have combined for eight wins with half of them coming against top-10 opponents. At the three, Callan Molle and Cati Leak have a combined 8-2 record with wins against No. 5 FIU, No. 8 Stetson, No. 9 FIU and No. 10 Grand Canyon. Mandi Orellana and Cheyenne Wood have tallied six victories in eight matches.
“Whenever you’re playing great competition, all the ones are super strong,’’ explained associate head coach Russell Brock. “We expect our ones to compete, but you have to win three out of five. We really worked hard through recruiting and training to (solidify) those slots … We knew we needed to get deeper this year, and that’s a big reason why we’ve been able to win these big matches. Hopefully, all of our teams end up with a good record at the end, and that’s how you know you’ve had a good season.’’
LSU will square off against Houston Baptist on Friday at 1 p.m.
