Beach Volleyball To Host LSU Beach Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La.-The No. 12 ranked LSU beach volleyball team (8-3) will play host to No. 10 Grand Canyon and No. 3 Florida State this weekend at Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club off of Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge. All three teams will have the opportunity to play each other on Saturday, and the tournament will conclude on Sunday with a pairs bracket tournament. This marks the first time the Lady Tigers will return to competition after having a week off for spring break.

“I think we look good,” said associate head coach Russell Brock. “Last week was a great week of practice, and coming back this week, we really executed well and worked hard. We’ll be ready to go this weekend. Having that time off makes you look forward to competition, and it’s a good place to be.”

The Lady Tigers have won four straight matches and will face ranked opponents for the first time since the Tiger Beach Challenge. LSU is 1-3 on the year against teams that are ranked.

“It’s all going to come down to the small details in these matches,” said Brock. “It could just be the team that is more disciplined and doesn’t give away points that is going to pull these matches out. All three teams that are here are stacked with talent. We came up just a little bit short last time (we played ranked teams). That’s what we focused on and hopefully it will pay dividends.”

No. 2 pair Helen Boyle and Lilly Kessler enter this weekend with a 7-2 record in match play this season, including three wins against top-10 opponents. At the four, Mandi Orellana and Cheyenne Wood have combined for a 6-2 record, and No. 3 tandem Cati Leak and Callan Molle remain undefeated in CCSA conference matches.
