BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s basketball program has received a National Letter of Intent from Shanice Norton to continue her career with the Lady Tigers as announced Friday by head coach Nikki Caldwell.
Norton, a 5-8 guard from London, England, played at the Barking Abbey Basketball Academy in her native country before spending the last two seasons at the Potter’s House Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. Her team was not only state champions but recently won the National Christian School Athletic Association national championship. She also plays AAU ball for the prestigious Jacksonville Lady Rams who have won multiple titles.
Norton is extremely athletic and can play any guard position. She represented England on the U16 Team in the FIBA European Championships in 2012 and 2013 in addition to being selected to England’s U18 team which will play in the 2015 FIBA European Championships.
“Shanice is going to be a great addition to the LSU family,” Caldwell said. “She’s an exceptional person with a great work ethic. We are extremely excited about the impact she will have on the court as a very explosive guard who can score and defend. Shanice’s diverse game will be a great attribute to the continued success of our program.”
LSU has already signed Ayana Mitchell a four-star forward and Top 50 player by a vast number of recruiting websites which include ESPNW from Conyers, Georgia.
LSU has collected four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances highlighted by a pair of NCAA Sweet 16 trips under Caldwell. The Lady Tigers also have secured a trio of 20-plus win seasons and have reached at least 10 SEC victories three times with Caldwell at the helm.
