MVP Simmons Leads High School to National Title

NEW YORK CITY – LSU men’s basketball signee Ben Simmons made four free throws and had a breakaway dunk in the final minute to clinch Montverde (Fla.) Academy’s third straight national high school championship with a 70-61 win over previously undefeated Oak Hill (Va.).

The final of the nationally televised tournament was played at Madison Square Garden.

Simmons had his second consecutive double double in the event with 20 points (15 in the second half), 11 rebounds and six assists as Montverde finished with a record of 31-1. For the three games of the tournament, Simmons had 58 points and 35 rebounds and was named the MVP of the event.
