Mills Named to Lott IMPACT Watch List

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior defensive back Jalen Mills was one of 42 players across the nation chosen to the 2014 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced.

A native of DeSoto, Texas, Mills has started all 26 games in the past two seasons for the Tigers.

After earning First-Team Freshman All-America honors in 2012, Mills followed with a successful sophomore campaign in 2013 in which he finished third on the team with 67 total tackles and tied for the team lead with three interceptions.

Mills showed his versatility by making starts at both cornerback and safety last season, and he tied for the team lead in tackles in the final two games of the season against Arkansas (nine stops, one interception) and in the Outback Bowl versus Iowa (six tackles, one pass breakup).

The Lott IMPACT Trophy, now in its 11th season, was established by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation to honor college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.

The award is presented to the college defensive player of the year with equal weight given to personal character as well as athletic performance.

LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey was the recipient of the award in 2007, while cornerback/return specialist Patrick Peterson was selected as a finalist in 2010.
