Women's Tennis Completes Signing Class with Straume

BATON ROUGE – Madara Straume from Latvia has signed a National Letter of Intent with the LSU women’s tennis team, as announced Saturday by head coach Julia S. Sell

‘We are very excited to welcome Madara into the Tiger family,” said LSU head coach Julia S. Sell.  “We felt an immediate connection during her visit, and we knew she was a perfect fit for our team.  She is an aggressive lefty that will add immediate strength to our roster.”

Straume joins signee Amanda Atanasson to complete the Lady Tigers 2014 recruiting class.

Straume has competed in both the ITF and the WTA where she has captured two wins over Top 10 opponents and three wins over Top 50 opponents.  Her record is highlighted by a win over a blue chip player listed in the Top five of the Tennis Recruiting Network rankings.

Additionally, Straume has garnered nine wins over Top 500 opponents during her juniors tennis career.
