BATON ROUGE — Amanda Atanasson, a five-star recruit out of Owing Mills, Md., has signed a National Letter of Intent with the LSU women’s tennis team, as announced Monday by head coach Julia S. Sell.
Ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Maryland and sixth in the Mid-Atlantic section, Atanasson is LSU’s first signee for the 2014-15 season. Atanasson currently has a recruiting ranking of 36. Her highest recruiting ranking was 31, which she achieved in 2013.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the addition of Amanda to our program moving forward,” said Sell. “Throughout her fantastic junior tennis career, she has demonstrated the characteristics necessary to be an elite student-athlete at LSU. Amanda has tremendously high goals for her collegiate career and beyond, and she will do an amazing job representing LSU on and off the court.”
Atanasson holds a 24-13 overall record. She has collected three wins over blue-chip players, five wins over five-star opponents and 15 wins over four-star opponents.
Atanasson has trained at Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) based out of College Park, Maryland, which was recently honored as the 2013 Team USA Developmental Program of the Year.
“Amanda possesses one of the most versatile and well-rounded games of any prospect in the country and that is shown by her results over several top American players,” said Sell. “Her physical balance and diverse shot selection give her the ability to be dangerous from any position on the court, and the foundation that her coaches at the JTCC have given her will enable her to develop into a top college player.”
