Kopcso, Weil Earn SEC Swimming & Diving Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Diver Cassie Weil and freshman swimmer Kara Kopcso earned Southeastern Conference honors the league announced Thursday. The awards are voted on by the league head coaches, and recognize the conference’s top performers and coaches of the 2013-14 season. 
 
Weil was named to the Women’s All-SEC Second Team after finishing as a First-Team and Honorable-Mention All American at NCAA Championships on platform and three-meter respectively. The Hillsboro, Ore. native owns the program record in the 3-meter and platform events and earned bronze medals on the two events at SEC Championships
 
“This is a terrific honor for Cassie representing a tremendous year,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shafer said. “She is extremely dedicated and focused on achieving her goals and raising her performance standards. She continues to improve and I’m sure receives a great deal of satisfaction from this recognition.”
 
Kopcso was named to the Women’s SEC All-Freshman Team after a phenomenal first year. The Mandeville, La. set the program record in the 200 fly in a dual meet against Texas A&M and qualified individually for NCAA Championships.Kopcso was also named the SEC Freshman Swimmer of the Week three times this year. 
 
“Obviously through the recruiting process and her freshman year we saw the potential that was ahead of her,” LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Finishing with this honor on top of reaching NCAA Championships is a great way to close out the season.
