CCACSA Holds 'Take Flight Drive-In Conference

BATON ROUGE – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student Athletes (CCACSA) recently held its inaugural Take Flight Drive-In Conference.

The purpose of this daylong conference is to bring in representatives from area high schools, community colleges and four-year institutions to discuss topics related to working with student-athletes in our career field. There was shared knowledge and inspired discussions that the conference attendees could use in their respective positions in education.

“We were very fortunate to have a solid inaugural Take Fight Drive-In Conference that consisted of presenters and workshops designed to help individuals in our career field navigate the challenges we face in our profession and on respective campuses,” CCACSA Academic Advisor Jason Shaw said. “We are very excited about the potential for growth and participation in the upcoming second annual CCACSA Take Fight Drive-In Conference.”

In its first year, the conference had attendees from seven universities, three high schools and various on campus departments. The Take Flight initiative of the event is the first step to developing a learning community within the state of Louisiana that underscores our shared responsibility to promoting shared learning, shared knowing, and shared knowledge.

“’Take Fight’ represents the shared responsibility of education. Its purpose was to share best practices, new ideas, broaden our network in addition to discussing the hot topics of our profession,” said Assistant Vice Chancellor and CCACSA Executive Director Kenneth Miles. “All of which are critical, particularly, as we make progress towards developing our student-athletes academically, personally, and professionally. I look forward to continuing this conference on an annual basis as we strive to be the premier resource for transformative support services for student-athletes.”
