LSU Soccer 2013-14 UEFA Champions League Pick’em

Following the group draw for the UEFA Champions League on Thursday of last week, members of the LSU Soccer program have made their picks of which clubs they think will advance from the group stage and into the knockout rounds of the world’s premier club tournament during the 2013-14 season.

Players, coaches and support staff have made their picks with their “expert” predictions of the teams finishing in first place and second place in each of the eight groups in this year’s UEFA Champions League. A total of 32 clubs from 18 countries will compete in group play with four teams in each of the eight groups battling to advance to the knockout rounds.

LSU Soccer’s inaugural UEFA Champions League Pick ‘Em Contest will feature a point system as points will be assigned for correct picks throughout the tournament. A winner will be crowned after the UEFA Champions League Final to be played on May 24, 2014, at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon, Portugal.

First in this two-part pick ‘em contest features the group play predictions by players, coaches and support staff for the LSU Soccer program.

There will be 1 point awarded for each team correctly picked to advance to the knockout stages and 2 bonus points awarded for each perfect group in which a contestant correctly picks both the first-place and second-place teams in order that advance to the knockout stages.

Scoring for the knockout rounds will award 3 points for correctly picked quarterfinalists, 6 points for correctly picked semifinalists, 12 points for correctly picked finalist and 24 points for correctly picking the champion of the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League.

Teams drawn in each of the eight groups with our “expert” picks are listed below.

BATON ROUGE – The group stage of the UEFA Champions League is off and running for the 2013-14 season as Europe’s top clubs look to position themselves for the knockout rounds. As part of LSU Soccer’s UEFA Champions League Pick ‘Em Contest, we will review the group play results and standings following each match day.
