BATON ROUGE – LSU softball players Alex Boulet and Simone Heyward volunteered their time earlier this week at the 2013 Mid-City “Striking Out ALS” Executive Lock-Up event to help raise awareness of neuromuscular diseases for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The MDA Lock-Up is a community event that helps local children and adults with muscle diseases. Business and community leaders from all around Baton Rouge went behind bars to raise bail money to benefit the MDA.
“The MDA Lock-Up was a great time and a fun way to raise funds and awareness for such a good cause,” Boulet said. “It was awesome to see such important community leaders devote their time and money to help strike out ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).”
“It was really amazing seeing all the different types of people in Baton Rouge helping to raise so much, including doctors, attorneys, the sheriff, pastors, and the fire chief,” Heyward said. “Although we weren’t able to contribute monetarily, we were able to assist the people who were in charge of helping to make such a huge difference.”
All funds raised by the MDA Lock-Up help provide lifesaving research to a nationwide network of medical clinics and summer camp experiences to individuals affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS and other related diseases.
