Soccer Players Take Part in 'Relay For Life'

BATON ROUGE – A trio of LSU Soccer players took part in Saturday’s “Relay for Life” held at the LSU Parade Grounds as rising seniors Megan Kinneman and Danielle Murphy and redshirt freshman Mariel McLaughlin helped celebrate cancer survivors and raise funds to fight back against the disease that impacts so many each day.

Kinneman, Murphy and McLaughlin were among the participants walking laps around the LSU Parade Ground as part of the opening ceremony for this year’s event.

All cancer survivors present during the event took the first lap, called the “Survivor Lap,” around the LSU Parade Ground to celebrate their victory over cancer while being cheered on by the other participants lining the track. Those participating in the event then followed by taking laps of their own in support of those before them.

“I really enjoyed participating in the Relay for Life event,” Kinneman said. “There were so many fun activities taking place around the track, but more importantly, it was all for a great cause. I look forward to getting more involved with Relay for Life in the future.”

During “Relay for Life” events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember those who have lost their battle with cancer and help raise funds to fight back against the disease. The events also recognize and celebrate the efforts of the caregivers who give their time, love and support to their loved ones battling cancer.
