CCACSA Holds R?sum? Workshops

BATON ROUGE – Over the past two months, the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes has been holding resume workshops for all junior and senior student-athletes. This resume program provides these student-athletes with the opportunity to learn the importance of building a resume before they graduate from LSU.

This workshop-like program was created to help student-athletes with drafting and updating their resume including their community service, academic achievements, athletic achievements, leadership roles and other work experience.

“The resume program is often an eye opening experience for many of our student-athletes,” Kydani Dover, CCACSA manager for student learning and learning specialist, said.  “Through the process of building and updating their resume, many students begin to develop a better sense of who they are and what they have to offer to their chosen profession. We believe that the more invested students become in shaping their professional identity, the more prepared they will be for a professional environment.”

Blake Winchell, job search coordinator of LSU Career Services, gave step-by-step instructions to the students on how to use LSU’s Careers2Geaux. This website helps students create a resume and find jobs based on their interests.

“I think the resume program is valuable due to the fact that it at least opens a student-athletes mind to what their resume could be, and why it is a useful tool regardless of where they plan to take their career,” said Winchell. “It allows for students to have one on one interaction with staff who are there to help them build their resume writing skills and introduce them to the services provided on campus outside of the CCACSA.”

“I thought that it was very helpful,” baseball’s Will LaMarche said. “The guest speakers not only gave some motivational thoughts but also made me realize the importance of a resume and all that goes into my career past sports.”
