ACSA Tutors, Mentors Finish CRLA Training
BATON ROUGE – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes now has 25 tutors and mentors that have completed their International Tutor Certification by the College Reading and Learning Association.
“In order to achieve the best, you first must equip yourself with the best,” Director of Student Affairs Mike Mallet said. “Here at Louisiana State University, it is of our opinion, that we have one of the best Tutorial Programs across the country. Achieving National recognition sets the standards high. With the personnel that we have assembled that reaches across the country, we feel that we have acquired some of the brightest minds as well as some of the brightest talents that you can find anywhere. I am so proud to be a part of this program and all of its accomplishments.”
There are 12 new level one certified tutors. With the overall goal to make tutoring sessions more interactive and efficient, this level focuses mostly on practical strategies, like note-taking, test preparation, time management and learning styles.
The level one certified tutors are: Stacey Amo, Kolawole Bello, Kara Blanken, Tyne Courville, Cecilia Ramos-Dayer, Arvind Saini, Ashley Shinpoch, Christine Sotile, Michael Toje, Ira Walker, Dusty Waltner and Seth Williams.
Level two certification is more in-depth, focusing on critical thinking strategies and math and science specific strategies. LSU has 13 newly certified level two tutors.
The level two certified tutors are: Jon Bajon, Amy Beecher, Camille Carnes, Kevin Creuder, Tyler Curry, Michaela Dawkins, Adelaide Hair, Jacquelyn Johnson, Christopher Magee, Dionell McNeal, Vanessa Molina, Madeline Morrell and Megan Spruell.
