Football's Davenport Meets with Local Kids

BATON ROUGE – Chris Davenport, a senior offensive tackle on the LSU football team, met with participants of St. Luke’s Vacation Bible School Tuesday at the Football Operations Center.

Davenport led a facility tour for the kids as part of their field trip. The Mansfield native spoke to them about his experiences as a student-athlete and the importance of making good decisions.

Davenport, who is graduating this December with a degree in sports administration, put an emphasis on academics and stressed its importance to the kids. He also shared his college experiences and spoke about how important receiving his diploma is to him.

“I volunteered today because I think it’s important to give back any opportunity you get,” Davenport said. “I didn’t have a strong role model growing up, and I think it’s important that these kids have someone to look up to. I hope they enjoyed their visit because it was really fun to get to meet and interact with them today.”

Davenport and the LSU football team meet North Texas to open the 2012 season on September 1 at Tiger Stadium.
