Golfer Yi Named to SEC Service Team

BATON ROUGE – For his outstanding service to the Baton Rouge community, senior All-America candidate Sang Yi has been selected a member of the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for the 2012 season as announced by the league office over the weekend.

A senior from Carrollton, Texas, Yi has been honored by the SEC for the first time in his collegiate career with his commitment to excellence for the Tigers both on and off the golf course.

Yi spearheaded an organization of LSU’s annual Halloween BOOzar, “Thanksgiving with the Tigers” and Christmas Toy Drive held during the 2011-12 academic year through the athletic department.

As part of the Halloween BOOzar, Yi helped set up an activity station for the local children in attendance, while also manning the haunted putt-putt game. He also signed autographs, passed out candy and played games with the kids in attendance for the Halloween BOOzar.

While organizing the “Thanksgiving with the Tigers” event, Yi joined with LSU’s student-athletes to join the local St. Vincent de Paul shelter to adopt 21 needy families during the holiday in November. He was a key contributor in providing Thanksgiving meals to those adopted families.

While volunteering with LSU’s annual Christmas Toy Drive, Yi helped to raise money with his teammates to provide an adopted underprivileged child with gifts to open on Christmas Day in December.

Yi has proven himself as a leader both on and off the course throughout his four-year career with the LSU men’s golf team. An All-American candidate in 2012, Yi has already been selected a First-Team All-SEC performer for the first time in his career while leading the Tigers with a career-best 71.6 stroke average en route four top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes in his 11 starts in 54-hole events this season. He took home a seventh-place finish on the leaderboard at the NCAA Palo Alto Region in his collegiate finale.

Yi is also an All-American in the classroom as a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll for his career and a 2011 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.
