Women's Tennis Coach Minnis Contract Not Renewed

BATON ROUGE – LSU will not renew the contract of women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced Wednesday.

Alleva said a search will begin immediately for a new women’s tennis coach for LSU.

Minnis joined LSU in 1992, registering an overall won-loss record of 285-134 and a mark of 86-144 in Southeastern Conference play.  The Lady Tigers made 15 NCAA tournament appearances during Minnis’ tenure.

During the course of his 21-year career at the head of the LSU program he became the longest-serving and winningest coach in the history of Lady Tiger tennis.  He was named Southwest Regional Coach of the Year five times, Louisiana Coach of the Year three times and Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 1997.

The LSU tennis team finished 11-13 in 2012, the third consecutive losing season for the Lady Tigers.
