Notes on the Tigers
No. 22 LSU completed the regular season with a 34-21 record which included a 15-13 mark in SEC action. The Tigers ended up in a fifth-place tie with Kentucky, but the Wildcats claimed all three games of the season series. LSU received a solo home run from Allison Falcon along with a Cassie Trosclair sacrifice fly in the opener. The Tigers were unable to hold a 3-0 advantage as Kentucky rallied for a quartet of runs over the final three innings. Over the final two games of the series, Brittany Mack and Rachele Fico were dealt tough-luck losses. For the season, Fico is 16-11 with a stout 0.99 ERA which ranks third-best in the nation. The junior right-hander has received seven total runs of support in her setbacks, and the Tigers have been shut out on seven occasions. Mack recently picked up SEC Community Service Team accolades. She created and championed the “Geaux Play” program where over 400 sporting goods items were collected at LSU softball home games for the special needs children of the Miracle League in Baton Rouge. The Miracle League kids were Brittany’s special VIP guests as part of “Geaux Play” day at the park during the Ole Miss finale on April 22. Afterwards, the special needs children joined the Tigers on the field for a game. LSU meets No. 6 Florida Thursday in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. at Rhoads Stadium on the University of Alabama campus. The game will be televised by ESPN U with Cara Capuano and Michele Smith anchoring the coverage.
