BATON ROUGE – LSU head coach Dennis Shaver announced Wednesday that the third-annual LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet will be held Friday, April 20, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center as part of the LSU Alumni Gold meet festivities the following day.
All current and former track and field athletes at LSU are invited to join in the celebration. A social is set for 6:30 p.m. CT with dinner and banquet scheduled to follow at 7:30 p.m.
The weekend of the LSU Alumni Gold has evolved into a true celebration of the rich history and tradition of the NCAA’s most storied track and field program as the Tigers and Lady Tigers welcome the alumni back to Baton Rouge for the LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet.
The program enjoyed a historic evening on the night of April 16, 2010, when it hosted the inaugural event with a crowd of more than 500 athletes, coaches, family and alumni in attendance at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge. In attendance at the inaugural banquet were more than 100 LSU Track & Field alumni from six decades of the most recognized combined program in all of collegiate track and field.
The second-annual team banquet was held on Easter weekend a year ago as the event saw a strong alumni representation yet again on a glorious Good Friday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet was established to recognize the current members of the LSU Track & Field program for their outstanding performance in competition, in the classroom and in the community, as well as honor the alumni who have laid the foundation of success that is enjoyed by the program today.
“This banquet is certainly an event that we in the LSU Track & Field family are proud to have,” said Shaver. “This celebration is something we look forward to each season as we honor our great alumni base along with the student-athletes who currently represent our program. We are asking that our alumni go ahead and RSVP today and join us again for this special occasion.
“I want our alumni to know that they will always have a place in our program. We would not be the squad we are today without the commitment they made to be the very best they could be, and for that, we are forever grateful. We would be honored for them to join us in this celebration again this year.”

This year’s team banquet will also feature a special recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Lady Tigers’ first NCAA championship team in 1987 that swept NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor titles.
