BATON ROUGE – After taking the this past weekend off following a successful trip to the 116th Penn Relays two weeks ago, the LSU track and field teams dropped in the latest Top 25 power ranking released Tuesday morning by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Lady Tigers surrendered their No. 1 national ranking from a week ago as they dropped to No. 2 in the country, while the Tigers dropped five spots from No. 2 to No. 7 following their idle weekend.

The Lady Tigers headline a list of four Southeastern Conference programs in the women’s Top 25, which also includes No. 9 Arkansas, No. 10 Florida and No. 14 Auburn.

The Tigers are one of eight SEC teams to crack the men’s rankings this week as they follow No. 3 Florida and lead such programs as No. 8 Auburn, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 13 Mississippi State, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 23 Georgia and No. 25 Arkansas.

LSU is continuing its preparation for the championship season that begins next weekend as the 2010 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 13-16 at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
