BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Jessica Mouse and McNeese State’s Meagan Bond picked up Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week accolades Thursday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A junior infielder for the Tigers, Mouse had a weekend to remember as LSU notched a three-game sweep over Kentucky. Entering the weekend with a .247 batting average, Mouse went an amazing 7-for-8 with a trio of multi-hit efforts, five doubles and two RBIs from the No. 9 spot in the lineup. She matched a career-best with three hits in the series finale and reached base during her last eight at-bats of the weekend.
Bond, a freshman pitcher for the Cowgirls, produced a 3-0 record highlighted by a four-hit shutout over No. 16 LSU. She also notched the first and third wins at Texas-Arlington. For the week, she struck out 23 batters and surrendered only three earned runs over 21.0 innings of work. She missed equaling her season-high of 12 by only one K during the third game against UTA.
It’s the first weekly award for both Mouse and Bond from the LSWA.
