BATON ROUGE – For his outstanding service to the Baton Rouge community, senior golfer Brent Blaum has been named a member of the Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Community Service Team for the 2010 season as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
A senior from Coral Gables, Fla., Blaum has been honored by the SEC for the first time in his career with his commitment to excellence for the Tigers both on and off the golf course.
Blaum spearheaded the organization of the “Christmas with the Tigers” program in December. As part of the event, the men’s golf team took part in LSU’s annual Christmas Toy Drive in which it adopted an underprivileged child during the Christmas season. Blaum helped the team raise money for gifts that were given to the boy at the “Christmas with the Tigers” program on campus.
Blaum has also shown dedication in serving his fellow student-athletes as he has represented the program this season as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was part of the SAAC sponsored Haiti Relief fundraiser held for the organization Lespwa Worldwide.
Blaum helped the SAAC set up an informational session that presented the needs of those affected by the Haiti earthquake and also helped organize a silent auction at one of the LSU baseball games.
A senior majoring in sport management, Blaum has competed in five tournaments for the Tigers this year while posting a 77.0 scoring average in 15 competitive rounds. He will wrap up his collegiate career this spring after making 19 tournament starts for the Tigers in four seasons with the program.
